What is Chiropractic Assistants of New York?
"CANY is the membership designation for Chiropractic Assistants of New York, a non-voting membership in the New York Chiropractic Council created to include those who are not Doctors of Chiropractic but who provide a crucial role in the success of chiropractic offices across New York State.
As a part of the growing chiropractic community in New York State, we know that you’re well aware that the New York Chiropractic Council is the organization that most significantly impacts the growth and preservation of the chiropractic way of life for everyone. CANY serves to support the mission of the New York Chiropractic Council by serving and supporting your office staff. When your staff becomes active CANY members, they become plugged in to a supportive network of successful chiropractic practices serving our communities.
There are a multitude of educational opportunities and benefits that come with the CANY membership. CA’s can take an active interest in growing and learning by engaging CANY through various venues such as Facebook, Monthly Conference Calls, Email blasts and discounted registration at our Seminars held during the Council’s Annual Lyceum, Mid-Year and Annual Conventions. We also offer opportunities for your CA to join an organizational committee and take part in generating exciting programs and valuable benefits for our membership. Joining a committee offers a unique and valuable opportunity for fellowship, new experiences and growth as we serve alongside one another.
The New York Chiropractic Council has revamped our Chiropractic Assistants of New York Program (CANY). Beginning July 1st, 2020, CANY Membership will be $50.00 per person. We will no longer offer an Office Fee for multiple CA’s. We feel that this can give more ownership of the membership to the CA, giving them the opportunity to pay their dues if their doctor chooses not to. The requirements are the same, the doctor must be a Council Member.
Starting on October 1st, 2020, the Council’s Chiropractic Assistant Certification Program (CCACP) will go into effect. This program is free to CANY Members as it is another benefit for them. Non-CANY Members can participate in the program for the fee of $85.00 per year. This program allows for Chiropractic Assistants to advance their knowledge and education of the Chiropractic Profession. Certification requires that you either maintain your CANY Membership and/or maintain your non-member annual fee and complete 18 hours of continuing education in Business, Art/Science & Philosophy (specific numbers per category). These hours can be earned by attending Council Conventions, Seminars & Webinars and you have a 2-year period to complete these hours. The breakout is as follows:
5 hours in Art/Science
9 hours in business
4 hours in Chiropractic Philosophy
After you reach listed requirements, to maintain your certification, you must get 9 credits every year thereafter.
Please note, that this certification is issued by the New York Chiropractic Council. It is in no way related to any licensing in the state, it is for the benefit of the CA only.
We believe that you and your CA’s will find that the programs and activities of CANY are innovative and a reflection of the shared interests and needs of your CA’s. Along with the opportunities and benefits that membership provides, we believe that CA’s must be continuously trained and encouraged to take ownership of their ‘front line’ position in representing chiropractic interests. In doing so, we find that the sense of belonging can have a very positive effect on the job satisfaction and commitment of your CA’s.
As the leadership of CANY, we want you to know that we encourage only positive interaction and communications among our membership. We stand for respect for both the profession and for all of our Chiropractors. It’s very important to us that CANY be a safe, positive and productive atmosphere dedicated to growth and fellowship for both CA’s and the doctors we serve.
